Leaders in Manafwa have called up on the government to add more relief food following the high population pressure in district.
Government through the office of the prime minister on Friday last week delivered 30 tons of rice to Manafwa district as response to the food crisis said to be hitting the district.
But our reporter Julius Musungu who hails from the area says distribution of the food relief to the 30 sub counties which make up the district is proving to be a challenge, bearing in mind that the district also has a population of over 380,000 people.
He says so far; Butiru Sub County with 8,000 households has received 600 Kilograms of rice while Bukhaweka and Sisuni have each got 800 Kilograms.
And according to Kitongo Mafabi David the LC3 chairperson Butiru sub county, they managed to ration the 600 Kilograms among the most vulnerable people in the sub county.
Simon Natdunga the Community Development Officer at Butiru sub county appreciates government for the relief but urged it to send more food as more people are faced with hunger.
Meanwhile, a section of beneficiaries whom Step FM caught up with have appreciated their parliamentary leaders for lobbying for the relief as it has come at a time when most families were struggling to have food on the table.
